Lajpat Rai, Lala : a brilliant writer, powerful orator and Congress leader of the United Punjab, popularly known as Sher-i-Punjab (Lion of Punjab or Punjab Kesri) ; one of the founders of Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College, Lahore ; leader of the Nationalist Party in Assembly. He died of fatal lathi blows by the police while lecturing against Simon Commission in Lahore.
Lakshmi Bai, Rani of Jhansi : Rani Lakshmi Bai, famous as Rani of Jhansi, was queen ruler of Jhansi, a district of Bundelkhand in U.P. She was a brave woman warrior and was one of the leading personalities who took active part in the first war of Indian Independence in 1857 (the so-called Indian Mutiny). She is said to be the bravest and most capable heroine of the War of Independence.
Lenin : Nikolai Lenin (1870-1924) was founder of Bolshevik communism and by far the greatest single driving force behind the Soviet revolution of Oct-Nov. 1917.

Lincoln, Abraham (1809-1865) : a lawyer in early life, returned to Congress in 1846 from springfield, Illionois and was elected 16th President of the United States of America. He abolished slavery in the U.S.A. He was assissinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865.
